Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin invites players into a vibrant RPG set within the Monster Hunter universe, where you take on the role of a Monster Rider. The story begins on Hakolo Island during a festival in the village of Mahana, as Rathalos—the iconic flying wyverns—start mysteriously disappearing worldwide. You are the grandchild of Red, a legendary Rider whose Monstie was Guardian Ratha, the island’s revered protector. When you meet Ena, a Wyverian girl carrying a precious Rathalos egg entrusted by Guardian Ratha, you embark on a journey to protect the egg and uncover the strange disturbances affecting the environment. As the egg hatches, a flightless Rathalos with small wings emerges, setting the stage for an adventure filled with discovery and companionship. Gameplay centers around forming bonds with a variety of monsters known as Monsties, which you hatch from eggs found in Monster Dens scattered across the world. These creatures become your allies in turn-based battles that emphasize strategy through three attack types—Power, Speed, and Technical—where anticipating opponents’ moves is key to victory. You can customize and strengthen your Monsties by transferring genes in a process called the Rite of Channeling, unlocking new abilities and creating unique combinations. Alongside monster companions, players can craft and equip weapons and armor from six weapon types familiar to the series, tailoring their playstyle and appearance with layered armor options. The game also offers multiplayer modes that allow co-op quests and versus battles, encouraging teamwork and competition among players globally. Additional downloadable content expands customization options with new hairstyles, outfits, and more, allowing players to personalize their experience further.
