Game Overview
Set in 1986, *Kaizen: A Factory Story* follows David Sugimoto, a young professional from South Bend, Indiana, who lands his first job at Matsuzawa Manufacturing in Japan. Expecting a glamorous corporate role, David is instead assigned to an aging factory on the outskirts of Tokyo, where he must quickly adapt to the demanding world of factory automation. Against the backdrop of Japan’s booming economy, players step into David’s shoes to design and optimize automated production lines, striving to create efficient, streamlined factories that balance speed and simplicity. The gameplay centers on welding, riveting, cutting, and drilling components to build intricate machines that meet production goals. Players can experiment with different configurations, refining their designs to improve output and efficiency. The game encourages creativity by allowing users to export animated GIFs of their factory layouts to share with others. Beyond the main factory simulation, *Kaizen* also offers a lighthearted diversion in the form of Pachi-Sol, a pachinko-themed solitaire game that provides a break from the intense problem-solving. Developed by the creators behind *Opus Magnum* and *SpaceChem*, this title blends a compelling narrative with deep engineering puzzles, offering a unique glimpse into the challenges of 1980s industrial Japan.
