XCOM: Chimera Squad

XCOM®: Chimera Squad offers a fresh chapter in the XCOM universe, set five years after humanity’s victory over alien invaders. The game takes place in City 31, a unique urban environment where humans and aliens strive to coexist after years of conflict. As tensions simmer beneath the surface, an elite team known as Chimera Squad—composed of both human and alien agents—must confront underground threats that threaten to plunge the city back into chaos. The narrative explores the challenges of rebuilding trust and cooperation in a world still healing from war, providing a distinctive backdrop for gameplay. The game builds on XCOM’s signature turn-based tactical combat with several new mechanics that emphasize strategy and teamwork. Players control a squad of 11 distinct agents, each with their own specialized abilities and personalities, allowing for diverse tactical approaches. A key innovation is the “breach mode,” where players strategically assign agents to different entry points to launch coordinated assaults, injecting a dynamic start to each encounter. Combat features an interleaved turn system, alternating actions between player agents and enemies to create unpredictable and intense firefights. Outside of battle, players manage a high-tech headquarters, balancing investigations, missions, and rising unrest across City 31’s districts. This strategic layer adds urgency and depth, as decisions made off the battlefield directly impact the fragile peace and the squad’s chances of success.
