DreadOut 2 is a third-person horror adventure set in a small Indonesian town steeped in folklore and urban legends. Players take on the role of Linda Meillinda, a high school student with the supernatural ability to see and sense ghosts. Armed with her smartphone, Linda must confront terrifying spirits and dark forces threatening not only her hometown but the wider world. The game builds on the original’s cult following by introducing new melee combat mechanics alongside the signature smartphone-based ghost hunting, allowing players to fight both intangible and physical ghosts through a combination of camera-based attacks and close-quarters weapons. The game emphasizes exploration and survival in a nonlinear environment, where players can roam Linda’s eerie hometown day and night, interact with both living residents and restless spirits, and uncover hidden side quests tied to Indonesian myths. Players will encounter a range of challenging boss ghosts, including the infamous Kuntilanak and Gore Surgeon, each requiring strategy and courage to defeat. Environmental storytelling plays a key role, with the town’s nooks and crannies revealing clues and deepening the narrative. Throughout the journey, players collect entries for the in-game Ghostpedia, a compendium of local legends and supernatural encounters, enriching the experience with cultural lore and chilling discoveries.
