Game Overview
Utawarerumono: ZAN is an action-packed hack-and-slash game set in the vibrant world of Yamato, continuing the story from Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception. Players step into the shoes of Haku, a mysterious man who awakens in an unfamiliar land and quickly becomes entwined with a diverse group of allies—including warriors, scholars, and royalty—led by the charismatic rogue Ukon. Together, they navigate a storyline filled with intrigue, battles against invading forces, and efforts to uncover hidden conspiracies, all while forging strong bonds that shape their journey. Gameplay centers around fast-paced combat where players can build combos into the hundreds by juggling enemies and unleashing powerful attacks. The game features a party system that lets you assemble a team of four characters, each with unique stats and abilities, allowing for dynamic switching during battles. Progression involves customizing gear, choosing formations that enhance your team’s strengths, and powering up your characters after every fight. Combat is further enriched by a Zeal meter, which fills as you dodge and land hits; this resource can be spent on visually striking Chain Attacks or saved to trigger devastating Final Strikes in an Overzeal state. Complementing the intense action is a soundtrack of over 80 tracks, including energetic remixes of classic Utawarerumono themes, adding an immersive rhythm to each battle.
