ASPIS

Set in the Soviet Union in 1987, *ASPIS* follows the story of Andrey, an engineer who volunteers for an experimental system designed to predict historical events by connecting six participants to a virtual network. A year later, none of the volunteers have awakened, including Andrey, who initially joined the experiment in the hope of briefly reuniting with his deceased wife and daughter. Instead of a controlled simulation, *ASPIS* fractures reality itself, pulling Andrey into a series of distorted and surreal environments that blend familiar Soviet-era locations with ancient ruins and otherworldly landscapes. As players explore these shifting realms, they uncover documents, interact with terminals, and piece together the mysterious circumstances surrounding the experiment and its unintended consequences. The gameplay balances exploration, puzzle-solving, and tense encounters, with the player navigating through layered dimensions using a unique device called the PEP-01. This tool allows Andrey to manipulate “Energy X,” powering machinery and opening astral windows to access objects and pathways unreachable in a single reality. The presence of a relentless pursuer known as the Guardian adds a constant sense of urgency, as players must evade rather than simply confront this foe. Combat with other adversaries relies on limited firearms and melee options, encouraging careful resource management. Along the way, Andrey encounters other trapped volunteers, enigmatic figures like a talking cat familiar with the ancient pathways, and even the Devil, each revealing fragments of the larger mystery. The story culminates in a pivotal choice that determines Andrey’s fate, offering multiple endings and inviting players to reflect on the true cost of the experiment.
