Game Overview
Cairn is a realistic climbing simulation that puts you in the shoes of Aava, a professional climber attempting the first-ever ascent of Mount Kami, a mysterious and treacherous peak. The game emphasizes intuitive and precise climbing mechanics, encouraging players to carefully choose handholds and footholds while managing posture, balance, and effort. Falling is a constant risk, making each movement a deliberate challenge. Beyond the physical climb, the story unfolds through encounters with unexpected companions and messages from those left behind, revealing the mountain’s history and the personal sacrifices Aava must consider to fulfill her dream. The open-ended design lets you chart your own path up the mountain, reading the rock face from below and devising a route that suits your style and skills. Climbing feels like a series of intense boss battles, with difficult sections requiring problem-solving and adaptability. Resource management plays a key role throughout the ascent—you’ll need to gather and carefully use supplies like pitons, chalk, finger tape, as well as food, water, and medicine. Setting up bivouacs allows for rest and recovery during the long journey. Developed by the award-winning indie team behind Furi and Haven, Cairn features a striking art style by comic artist Mathieu Bablet and an immersive soundtrack crafted by composers known for their work on Limbo, Inside, and Control, making for a deeply atmospheric and memorable experience.
