Over the course of 50 in-game days, players develop their chosen character by rolling dice to move across a colorful game board, triggering a variety of events that influence stats, skills, and story interactions. As characters level up, collect Talent Fragments, and gather new weapons and armor, players must navigate obstacles like boss battles and monster encounters designed to challenge their progress. The game features over a thousand unique event scenes, blending exploration, character growth, and engaging story moments, all complemented by new swimsuit outfits and collectible collaboration illustrations. Beyond the main board game, Danganronpa S offers a standalone Battle Mode where players can assemble a party of up to four characters to tackle the Tower of Despair, a 200-floor gauntlet filled with waves of Monokuma-themed enemies. Success in battle earns valuable Monokuma Medals that can be exchanged, along with Monocoins, at the School Store’s MonoMono Machine to unlock new characters and support items. Character rarity plays a significant role in how quickly they progress during Development mode, encouraging players to strategize their team composition and growth.
