Distraction Machine is set in Island City, a once-thriving metropolis now overrun by undead creatures known as feeders. With the government and military wiped out, various survivor factions vie for control amid the apocalypse. Groups like the Children of Arms, the Purified, and the Marauders each have their own brutal approaches to survival, turning the city into a battleground. Among these tensions, one fortified community called the Quartier struggles to hold on, facing exhaustion and despair. You step into the role of The Distractor, a unique figure wielding the Distraction Machine—a makeshift musical device crafted from bicycle parts and found objects. This machine has the unusual power to influence both the undead feeders and the living survivors, offering a mysterious means to sway the tide of conflict through music. The game offers two main modes: Chronicle and Conductor. In Chronicle Mode, players engage with a story-driven experience where choices and musical compositions shape relationships and affect the community's fate, blending narrative elements with puzzle-solving. You’ll interact with a diverse cast of characters, each with their own ambitions and backstories, and use your musical skills to fulfill requests, solve puzzles, and navigate the complexities of this fractured world. Conductor Mode, by contrast, focuses on open-ended music creation, allowing players to experiment with loops, melodies, and soundscapes without narrative constraints. Both modes emphasize original musical composition rather than traditional rhythm gameplay and feature a distinctive cyclepunk art style inspired by comic book visuals.
