Evergate invites players to explore a beautifully crafted afterlife as Ki, a lost soul seeking a way back to Earth through the mysterious Evergate. Awakening in a realm filled with memories and echoes of the past, Ki must unravel her connection to a kindred spirit while navigating 85 thoughtfully designed stages. The game’s core mechanic, known as the Soulflame, grants Ki the ability to manipulate time and interact with the environment in creative ways. By firing beams of energy at special white surfaces called The Source, players can shatter crystals scattered throughout each memory, unlocking new paths and abilities that allow Ki to soar, reach hidden areas, and overcome challenging obstacles. Progression in Evergate is tied to collecting Essences found by thoroughly exploring each memory, which can be used to unlock ancient artifacts and enhance Ki’s attributes such as speed and jump height. This encourages repeated exploration and experimentation with the Soulflame’s powers to discover new strategies and secrets. The game’s hand-drawn art style and live orchestral soundtrack work together to create an immersive atmosphere that brings the afterlife’s dreamlike world to life.
