Graphite is a unique roguelike RPG that invites players into a world born from the imagination of a child’s pen-and-paper campaign. Set within the pages of a school notebook, the game brings to life pencil-drawn heroes and evolving monsters, all framed by a narrative that explores themes of grief, self-discovery, and growing up. Players follow seven distinct heroes, each with their own backstories and motivations, as they navigate a world where timing is critical, and death is an ever-present threat. Guided by a mysterious figure known as The Scribe—who is later revealed to be the child crafting this universe—these characters gradually uncover the deeper truths behind their existence, blurring the lines between creator and creation. Gameplay in Graphite revolves around a timeline-based combat system that emphasizes precise timing and tactical decision-making. Every action consumes time, allowing players to interrupt enemy moves or delay their own to gain an advantage. Encounters and enemies are procedurally generated and scale with player progression, ensuring each run remains fresh and challenging. Outside combat, players draw from a tarot-inspired adventure deck that presents branching narrative choices influencing the party’s journey, rewards, and consequences. The game’s roguelike progression system features powerful, stackable artifacts without limits, enabling endless customization and experimentation with different strategies. However, enemies can acquire these items too, turning battles into dynamic contests of strategy and power. Through intertwined storylines and evolving gameplay, Graphite offers an imaginative and emotionally resonant adventure where every decision shapes the fate of its drawn heroes.
