Herb Tea Man is a narrative-driven simulation-adventure game set in the vibrant Lingnan region of 1990s Guangdong, encompassing Hong Kong and Macau. Players step into the shoes of Sung, a chubby young man from Northern China who travels south to work at a time-honored herbal tea shop. As Sung, you’ll assist your master in brewing traditional herbal teas, preparing medicinal ingredients, and serving a diverse cast of customers. The gameplay blends light management and puzzle-solving elements, where understanding the symptoms of ailments like “internal heat” or “excess dampness” is key to crafting the right herbal remedies. Along the way, you’ll encounter four playful spirits embodying Dampness, Heat, Cold, and Toxin, who add humor and mystique to the unfolding story, gradually revealing the secrets behind your master’s past. The game’s richly detailed world is brought to life through hand-drawn indoor and outdoor environments inspired by the unique architecture and culture of 1990s Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. About 50 non-player characters populate the bustling neighborhood, each with their own heartwarming or amusing stories that reflect the local flavor. Beyond the simulation, Herb Tea Man offers charming frame-by-frame animated cutscenes that enhance its nostalgic atmosphere. By brewing bowls of herbal tea that connect to traditional Chinese medicine and street legends, players experience a warm, immersive journey where even a small shop’s simple act of kindness can offer a moment of respite in a busy city.
