Set in the vast subterranean mining city of Bravst, *The Luminist* unfolds beneath the surface of a world shaped by an authoritarian regime known as The Order. This ruling body has sparked an industrial and scientific revolution by exploiting a unique resource harvested from oil-rich mushrooms growing deep underground. The player takes on the role of Dietrich, an engineer trapped in a long-abandoned district of the city after a freak accident. Isolated and with only sporadic radio contact, Dietrich must navigate the dark, crumbling tunnels and deserted dwellings to find a way out. Along the way, he uncovers clues that reveal the disturbing reasons why this part of the mines was sealed off, all while racing against time as The Order seeks to keep its secrets buried. Gameplay in *The Luminist* blends third-person shooting with light-based mechanics, requiring players to use makeshift tools and projectile weapons to fend off relentless swarms of cave-dwelling creatures. The game challenges players to strategically manage light as both a weapon and a survival tool while exploring eerie, atmospheric environments. Beyond the story-driven campaign, there is also a ‘Horde’ mode where players can test and refine their combat skills against endless waves of monsters. Developed as a student project at DigiPen Institute of Technology, *The Luminist* offers an engaging mix of action, exploration, and mystery within a richly imagined underground world.
