Of Bird and Cage is a unique story-driven music game that blends a dark narrative with a symphonic metal soundtrack to create an immersive and emotional experience. Set in a twisted world inspired loosely by the tale of Beauty and the Beast, players step into the shoes of Gitta Barbot, a 25-year-old struggling with addiction and trapped in a harrowing captivity under her captor, Bres Lupus. Throughout the game, players must navigate a grim reality filled with violence and psychological torment, making rapid choices that influence the story’s outcome and reveal new paths, all while trying to maintain Gitta’s fragile sanity. The game explores complex themes of trauma, revenge, and forgiveness, with multiple endings shaped by the player’s decisions. Gameplay combines first-person exploration, puzzle-solving, and narrative-driven decision-making, all synchronized to a haunting two-hour symphonic metal concept album composed by Arnold Nesis. The soundtrack features contributions from notable artists such as former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Kobra Paige of Kobra and the Lotus, and members of bands like Epica and Within Temptation, enhancing the game’s intense atmosphere.
