Game Overview
River City Girls Zero takes players back to the origins of the River City Girls saga with a classic 16-bit beat-'em-up experience, now available outside Japan for the first time. Set in the gritty streets of River City, the game follows four hot-blooded heroes—Kunio, Riki, Misako, and Kyoko—as they fight to clear their names after being wrongfully accused of a serious crime. Players will battle through diverse environments like a high school, carnival, docks, and even a highway, facing off against waves of thugs and criminals using a variety of punches, kicks, grabs, and special moves unique to each character. The game supports both solo play and local co-op for two players, allowing friends to team up and take down enemies together. This edition preserves the original 1994 graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay mechanics, while enhancing the experience with new animated sequences, including an intro and closing motion-comic cutscenes that deepen the story. The soundtrack has also been updated with additional tracks by composers Megan McDuffee and DEMONDICE, adding fresh energy to the nostalgic soundscape. Unique gameplay moments include “Mode 7” style vehicle stages where players battle from a motorcycle. Alongside the action, an image gallery offers a look into the game’s history with vintage box art and manual images. River City Girls Zero offers a compelling blend of old-school charm and new content, making it a must-play for fans of the series and beat-'em-up enthusiasts alike.
