Sonic Superstars offers a fresh take on the classic 2D Sonic platforming experience, set against the vibrant backdrop of the mystical Northstar Islands. Players can choose from iconic characters including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, each with their own unique abilities, as they race to stop Dr. Eggman, his old rival Fang, and a mysterious new armored foe from turning the islands’ giant animals into mechanical enemies known as Badniks. The game combines the fast-paced, side-scrolling action fans expect with fully realized 3D graphics, introducing new Emerald-powered abilities that allow for dynamic movement and attacks, such as multiplying, swimming up waterfalls, and changing forms. The gameplay accommodates both solo and cooperative play, enabling up to four players to join the adventure locally with easy drop-in and drop-out functionality, marking the first time a Sonic campaign supports multiplayer throughout. Beyond the main story, Sonic Superstars also features a competitive Battle Mode where players can face off locally or online with up to eight participants.
