Steam Squad

Steam Squad is a tactical wargame set in an alternate steampunk universe during a Great War reminiscent of World War I, but with a unique twist inspired by vibrant, Miyazaki-style anime visuals. The game explores a compelling “what if” scenario where the Tianxian Empire successfully colonized Siberia before Russia and later engaged in conflict to expand its influence over Europe and America. Players choose to command forces from one of three world superpowers—the British Empire, Tianxia, or the Holy Roman Empire—each leading squads of up to eight units equipped with period-appropriate firearms and machinery. Across 30 challenging missions, players undertake a variety of objectives such as capturing strategic points, defending key locations or personnel, and executing sabotage operations. Gameplay in Steam Squad emphasizes tactical depth and careful planning. Players must thoughtfully assemble their teams by selecting suitable units, weapons, and ammunition tailored to the mission’s demands. Combat is grounded in realistic, physics-based mechanics, drawing inspiration from classic tabletop games like Warhammer and Infinity. This adds a layer of complexity where every decision matters, as units are fragile and limited in number. The game also offers the ability to commandeer enemy equipment, including tanks and artillery, and features customizable loadouts to suit different strategies. Visually, Steam Squad stands out with its richly detailed environments, destructible terrain, interactive wildlife, and atmospheric effects like depth of field and color correction that evoke an old film aesthetic. Together, these elements create an immersive experience that blends tactical warfare with a distinct, artistic world.
