Teardown is a physics-based action game set in a world built entirely from fully destructible voxel environments. Players take on the role of a small-time heist crew struggling to stay afloat amidst mounting debts and shady clients. The game’s narrative unfolds through a campaign of 40 missions that gradually dive into themes of revenge, betrayal, and fraud. Each mission challenges players to plan and execute complex heists using a blend of creative problem solving and brute force, encouraging experimentation with explosives, vehicles, and everyday objects to carve new paths, bypass security, or create distractions. The gameplay centers around freedom and emergent systems, offering a toolbox of 17 different tools—from sledgehammers and blowtorches to explosives and firearms—that players can upgrade by discovering hidden valuables scattered throughout the environments. Beyond the story-driven campaign, Teardown features a sandbox mode where players can freely explore and manipulate the destructible world without constraints, as well as a series of challenges that test skills in increasingly experimental scenarios. Additionally, the game supports extensive modding, including a built-in level editor, Lua scripting, and Steam Workshop integration, allowing players to create and share custom maps, vehicles, and gameplay modifications.
