Game Overview
Volkolak: The Will of Gods is a 2D Soulslike Metroidvania set in a richly detailed dark fantasy world inspired by Slavic mythology. The game unfolds in the Far-away State, a sprawling medieval realm plunged into chaos after a curse unleashed by the necromancer Koschei the Immortal drives its inhabitants mad and transforms them into malevolent creatures. Players take on the role of a protagonist navigating this eerie landscape, battling twisted minions through a deep and fluid combat system that emphasizes skill and timing. The side-scrolling action is brought to life with traditional frame-by-frame 2D animation, enhancing the game’s haunting atmosphere. Players can choose from three distinct classes—the bloodthirsty ghoul known as the Cursed, the mystical Volkolak who harnesses werewolf instincts and magic, or the seasoned warrior Veteran—each offering unique abilities, storylines, and gameplay experiences. Transforming into a werewolf is central to the gameplay, unlocking new powers through altars dedicated to pagan gods and enabling interactions with mythical creatures who provide valuable insights. Exploration plays a key role, with a vast interconnected world featuring diverse locations such as the dungeons of Tsargrad, the Dark Forest, and the Stinking Swamp. Along the way, players encounter legendary beings like Leshy, Baba Yaga, and the Firebird, facing over 50 enemy types and epic boss battles. With multiple endings and three different playthrough paths, Volkolak: The Will of Gods offers a mysterious and immersive journey steeped in Slavic folklore and dark fairy tale elements.
