Wartorn is a single-player, squad-based roguelite that immerses players in the war-ravaged Isles of Talaur, where two sisters, Yara and Elani, strive to reach the safety of their ancestral fortress, Beynun. The game combines strategic real-time combat with a unique elemental system, encouraging players to harness the interactions between fire, water, tar, plant, and lightning to overcome diverse enemies. These elements interact dynamically—water can extinguish fire or heal plant-based units, tar fuels flames, and electricity spreads through wet conditions—offering rich tactical depth that rewards clever squad composition and battlefield positioning. Players build and manage a caravan by recruiting fantasy creatures such as goblins, elves, demons, and treefolk, each bringing distinct abilities and strategic options. Success depends on balancing squad synergies, morale, and resources like food and hope, as losing units or morale can end the run. The game’s roguelite design ensures that each journey feels fresh, with unpredictable narrative events that influence the story and gameplay. As players explore the sprawling overworld map, they encounter branching paths and challenges that shape their progress.
