Yao-Guai Hunter is a martial fantasy roguelike set in a richly detailed world inspired by Chinese folklore and mythology. Players take on the role of a Yao Hunter, a warrior tasked with cleansing the land of ancient demons and restless spirits that have begun to reawaken. The game’s hand-painted environments evoke the feel of a living scroll, where myths and martial arts come to life in a vibrant, mystical landscape. As you journey through this world, every decision shapes your character’s legend, and each battle influences the fate of the realm. The game offers four distinct protagonists, each with unique abilities and playstyles: Mo San, a fierce warrior wielding a cursed blade that demands blood; Chuan, a Taoist inventor armed with magical bamboo weaponry; A-Zi, a witch from the Miao tribes who commands venomous insects and ancient hexes; and Ao Yu, a young dragon descendant who harnesses elemental storms. Progression is driven by collecting over 400 handcrafted cards, unlocking 172 inner skills, and experimenting with 54 mystical elixirs, offering deep strategic variety. Players face more than 100 unique enemies and random events across 20 ascending difficulty levels. The game also features multiple modes, including cooperative Yao Hunt Tournament, daily ranked challenges, and customizable adventures. With Steam Workshop support, players can expand their experience by installing community mods or creating their own martial legends.
