AiliA is a thoughtfully crafted 3D puzzle adventure that invites players into a mesmerizing world where mirrors serve as portals to alternate realities. You take on the role of Ail, a young girl determined to rescue her twin sister, Lia, who is trapped within the reflective surfaces of the mysterious Immortal Realm. By stepping through mirrors, Ail gains access to fully interactive mirror dimensions where she can manipulate objects, travel across reflected trains, and activate switches to solve intricate puzzles. The game’s core mechanic revolves around exploring and altering reflections, blurring the lines between reality and illusion, and requiring players to rethink spatial relationships in creative ways. Throughout the journey, players interact with over a hundred puzzles that incorporate innovative mirror-based challenges, including recursion and water reflections, all woven into a rich narrative experience. Set against seven beautifully designed chapters inspired by traditional Chinese art, AiliA’s environments range from ink-wash bamboo forests to shimmering mirror palaces, each filled with side quests, hidden rooms, and secret collectibles called Mirror Fragments. These fragments unlock memories that deepen the story, which unfolds through three interconnected threads: Ail’s quest in the Immortal Realm, glimpses of real-world memories triggered by shattering magical mirrors, and poetic reflections drawn from the developers’ personal experiences. Complementing the evocative storytelling is a unique soundtrack by composer Mark Benis, featuring live performances on traditional Chinese instruments that enhance the game’s immersive atmosphere. Developed by a team from the NYU Game Center, AiliA blends innovative gameplay, emotional narrative, and striking aesthetics to deliver a profound exploration of loss, connection, and self-discovery.
